Blog Assignment Week 13

For this week's blog, please write a well-developed paragraph reflecting/responding to your Process and Informative Speeches. Since you were not required to do a blog last week, you should make this one as lengthy and detailed as possible. Discuss what it felt like to give the speeches. Where did you struggle? Where did you excel? How did you improve from one speech to the next? Do you feel any different about public speaking now that you have done the two speeches? Remember, you are going to be addressing the class again during the team presentation, so you might want to reflect on how you should improve for that assignment, as well.

Informative Speech Assignment

Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to share ideas and information with the audience by fully describing and explaining the complete subject that is your topic. Through this speech, you will have the opportunity to “teach” us something. Therefore, this speech should inform the audience on your topic as if it were generally unknown to them, while developing its significance to them specifically, as well as society generally, and at a depth that we will find truly educational.

Description: This speech should be 4-5 minutes in length and a comprehensive preparation outline, featuring 3-5 main points, is required at the beginning of your speech. There are penalties for going over or under the required time limits. This means you will need to practice your speech sufficiently to be sure of its length.

The speech will also need to include two credible sources of information (books, newspaper articles, journal/database articles, encyclopedia entries, educational websites--NOT Wikipedia). You must refer to the source in your speech (i.e. According to an article from Blank Book by Blank Author, ...). If you have any questions, talk to me about citing your source during the Gallery Walk.

Remember, the purpose of this speech is to inform your audience on your topic, not to attempt to persuade them of what you believe. Be creative in choosing your topic and make sure that it really interests you. If you have questions or concerns, you will have a chance to discuss them with me during the Gallery Walk or via email.

Blog Assignment Week 11

For this week's blog post, please write a well-developed paragraph reflecting on your preparation for the Process Speech. How beneficial was the Gallery Walk? What are some of the areas you felt you could improve upon before next week? What are some areas you felt you excelled in during the GW? What is your biggest challenge going into giving your first speech next week? What are some things you are planning to do to combat this challenge? Be very detailed in your response!
